Mary-Audrey Ramirez creates imaginary beings that invade space by means of digital installations and sculptures made of fabric. An exceptional world-builder, Ramirez’s practice centers on a persistent speculative Post-Anthropocene universe in which humans are all but extinct and various critters roam the landscape. For Artissima, Ramirez creates an installation of several textile creatures for the first time in an art fair context. Oscillating between childhood escapist fantasies and apocalyptic speculative futures, Ramirez deftly moves between playfulness and critique within constructed immersive environments that challenge us to engage with the topics of climate change, anthropocentrism, and the possibility of life continuing after human extinction, all in large part due to the technological advancements of human civilization.
