Jura Shust is interested in the relationship between traditional rituals and the escapism enabled by modern tools, in the ways ancient mythological beliefs can integrate with contemporary technology. Intrigued by semantic polysemy, informational intoxication, and the primal pursuit of out-of-body experiences, he reflects on how the archaic overlaps with the technological. Rooted in scientific research and focused on the connection between the human psyche and the natural world, Shust’s practice encompasses various media in constructing mental landscapes defined by biopolitics and ethnoreligious beliefs.

Shust has exhibited at the Museum of Contemporary Art GFZK (Leipzig, DE), Contemporary Art Museum S.M.A.K. (Ghent, BE), Museum de Domijnen (Sittard, NL), Mystetskyi Arsenal (Kyiv, UA), Calvert 22 Foundation (London, UK), Badischer Kunstverein (Karlsruhe, DE), Blaffer Art Museum (Houston, Texas, US), Management (New York, US), among others. He participated in the 14th Baltic Triennial, CAC (Vilnius, LT), 4th Art Encounters Biennial (Timișoara, RO), and 15th Gwangju Biennale (Gwangju, KR). His works are held in the collection of S.M.A.K. Museum of Contemporary Art in Ghent, Belgium, and numerous private collections.
