NADA Miami 2023, Installation View

Management is pleased to announce a solo presentation of new works by Katie Hector at NADA Miami 2023, Booth B112.

Hector’s original and poetic practice produces paintings that bind the viewer in sustained psychological suspense, a mesmeric state akin to the descriptions of an encounter with the Lacanian void. Hector’s portraits of friends, acquaintances, and complete strangers are allegories of longing, intimacy, and grief in response to isolation and dissociation. Layering bleach and dye on canvas, Hector builds up and erases sections to create composite likenesses in a direct conversation with the materiality of the canvas. Within each painting, Hector is testing the limits of the fibers and the canvas’s ability to retain or let go of pigment. Thus the memory of the surface produces the final afterimage; an impression of personhood, an uncanny portrait. We have recently presented Hector’s work on David Zwirner’s Platform and are planning a solo exhibition in Spring 2024.
